This is hands-on work with cattle and equipment, outdoors in every season. Experience with cattle helps, but we will train a reliable person who wants to learn the job well.
The work
- Feed and water cattle, and keep feed, mineral and salt stocked in pastures.
- Sort, move and load cattle between pastures, pens and trailers using low-stress handling.
- Help with receiving, calving, tagging and routine herd health, and give treatments under the veterinarian’s protocols.
- Build and repair fence, gates and corrals.
- Keep water lines, troughs and waterers working, including through the winter.
- Run tractors, loaders, skid steers and trucks, and haul feed, hay and supplies.
- Do routine maintenance and minor repairs on equipment and facilities.
- Record what you did: treatments, cattle moves and counts.
What we’re looking for
- A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
- Reliability: on time, every day, in every season.
- Comfort around cattle and a willingness to learn low-stress handling.
- Mechanical aptitude for fences, water systems and equipment.
- The ability to lift 50 pounds or more, bend, stand for long periods and work outdoors in all weather.
- Availability for your share of weekend and holiday livestock care.
- Prior work on a cattle ranch or farm, especially with beef cattle.
- Tractor, loader and skid steer experience.
- A commercial driver’s license (CDL).
- BQA certification.
Outdoor, physical work in all weather, with early starts and a rotating weekend and holiday schedule.
$22 to $27 per hour, depending on experience. Housing is not provided.
A phone screen, an interview, a supervised working session on site with cattle and equipment, reference checks, then a written offer.
